Lorenzo Senni is a Milan based composer and multidisciplinary artist. With research including algorithmic methods in the arts, Senni investigates the mechanisms of dance music and releases are dedicated to the deconstructions of the sounds of trance and hard techno rave culture of the 1990s. He is the head of experimental music label Presto!?.
Senni studied Musicology at the University of Bologna. His third LP, Quantum Jelly, appearing on the independent record label Editions Mego, was received with unanimous acclaim; including 10th on the Boomkat TOP100 of 2012, 34th on Fact TOP50 releases of 2012, and 7th on DEBUG November 2012 Chart. The work is a record deeply influenced by Senni’s love of 90s trance/hard-trance music and a growing interest of the musical structures and sound archetypes of this genre. Senni works the most obvious characteristics from such music – spoon-fed with super-saws, build-ups of several minutes, and over-the-top instant gratification melodies – into his own background in experimental, noise, and abstract computer music. For instance, he’ll create tracks with just one simple idea, and force it into a "non-build-up", a sonic spiral of repetitive and percussive arpeggiated melodies, or, again using the idea of the "build-up" as a starting point, he’ll make a non-uplifting track that implicitly preserves its emotional tension and drama.
