Hosted by John Richards
Born out of John Richards' commitment to DIY and noise aesthetics, this workshop is for anyone interested in experimenting with electronic sound through shared experience, gesture, touch, and social interaction. Using components provided by Richards, participants will solder and build their very own Mute Synth II – an instrument designed for playful, intuitive interaction.
Released in 2014 by Mute Records, Mute Synth II encourages a pick-up-and-play approach—with multiple switches, knobs and touch controls that enable complex rhythms and surprising variety of sounds to be created simply. With its versatile mini-patchbay and multiple touch electrodes, Mute Synth II provides a labyrinth of possible connections and resulting behaviors through hybrid 4-bit binary coding, feedback loops, and bit bashing.
