Device programming in Max for Live with Cycling '74*

Hosted by Tom Hall

Max for Live is a powerful toolkit for creating your own custom devices for use in Ableton Live.

In this workshop, Cycling ‘74’s Tom Hall will walk you through the creation of a generative synthesizer using modules in BEAP - an open source modular synthesizer developed by Stretta, included in Max 7, and made up of a large number of high level audio building blocks.

We’ll focus on creating BEAP Oscillators, Pitch Control, Amplification, LFOs and Envelopes, with an emphasis on effective programming techniques for quickly realizing complex sound generation.

Users who follow along will leave with a greater knowledge of BEAP and a functioning generative Max For Live device of their own. No previous programming experience is necessary, but some understanding of the way synthesizers work will help.
