Flow: on immersion and focus in music making

A talk by Bryan Rill

"Flow" is a mental state identified by complete immersion in an activity as well as great focus and enjoyment in the task at hand. In this talk, Bryan Rill, an Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic, as well as cultural anthropologist and music maker, will lead an exploration of flow in musical environments, considering the crossing points between music, environment, consciousness, psychology and technology.

Why is flow important? How do we create and maintain flow? What is the future of flow as technology changes the way audiences engage? These are the central questions that will take us deep into the relationship between people and music.
