The open source community pursues a new way of making and sharing technology, where the source code for technologies is made freely available alongside the permission and even encouragement to modify, improve and redistribute it.
In the same way that the right to resample and remix fueled the electronic music revolution, open source lifts the distinction between producers and consumers of technology, unleashing a creative explosion at the boundary between art and engineering.
In this panel, we’ll have a conversation among major contributors in the open source world. They have diverse backgrounds in art, technology, music, and business, and are collectively, together and with many others, challenging the way we think about creativity and intellectual property. We’ll discuss the state of the art of open source music technology and how it influences their experiences as creatives and technologists, as well as the opportunities and challenges in breaking through to the mainstream.
