Georgia Tech Robotic Musicianship Group

The Robotic Musicianship Group at Georgia Tech aims to facilitate meaningful musical interactions between humans and machines, leading to novel musical experiences and outcomes.

In their research they embed computational modeling of music perception, interaction, and improvisation in robotic musicians that respond to humans in a physical, visual and social manner. At Loop they will present two of their recent inventions: Shimi - a smart-phone enabled robotic musical companion that can respond to and enhance humans' musical experiences; and The Robotic Drumming Prosthesis which, restores and augments the musical abilities of amputee drummer Jason Branes. They will also show new videos and musical examples developed for Shimon, the improvising robotic marimba player.
