UMA is the musical child of Ella and Florian Zwietnig, a Berlin-based duo whose visions for creating experimental pop music are often at odds with one another.

Ella studied classical music and sang in choirs in the solitude of rural Austria as a child. In Vienna, as part of the supergroup Go Die Big City! and solo as Jools Hunter, she was already working with spacey synths and decelerated beats. Florian grew up in German suburbia. An experience that substantially contributed to his interest in alternative, leftfield music. Later he was part of the renowned Mediengruppe Telekommander. By chance they met, married and formed UMA in late 2011 as a one-off support gig for Silver Apples at the Red Bull Music Academy 2011 in Madrid. Their selftitled debut Album was released to critical acclaim in 2014, following extensive touring throughout Europe, UK and shows in Japan and China. Their innate pop sensibility is framed within the context of contemporary experimental electronic music,  somehow finding a fragile side within the bass spectrum.
