According to Los Angeles-based producer Matthewdavid, generative music making can help us discover a state of timelessness through music. Over the years of producing Mindflight, his Dublab radio show, and on numerous releases on his Leaving Records label, Matthewdavid has amassed an arsenal of techniques and strategies for composing and performing long-form, generative music.
In this workshop Matthewdavid will first introduce some of the basic concepts of generative music and look at some noteworthy ambient and new age recordings that incorporate generative processes. Then, incorporating exclusive audio content provided by Matthewdavid, participants will make their own generative compositions. Special emphasis will be placed on finding appropriate randomization for automation, modulation and effects parameters. The workshop will conclude with a performance and Q&A session.
Please bring a laptop with Ableton Live 9.
Due to the small group format of these events, workshops will require pre-registration. Registrations will take place in October 2016. Each Loop ticket holder will be able to register for one workshop.
