The sound of Syrian musicians Khaled Kurbeh & Raman Khalaf mixes up Raman’s oud playing and vocals with Khaled’s piano and synthesizers, and ranges from largely acoustic to more electronic when performing live.
With immersive compositions and content they have created a sound that is both astute and inventive. The music itself fuses ambient, minimal and world styles.
Currently based in Berlin, Khaled Kurbeh & Raman Khalaf have been making music together since 2015. The years since have seen them perform at the likes of Haus der Kulturen der Welt, at the BBC Arabic Festival in London and Potsdamer Tanztage as well as on Piano Day at Funkhaus. Their debut record Aphorisms will be released in November 2017 via Between Buttons, the joint label project from Henrik Schwarz and !K7. The pieces were recorded with an ensemble of Berlin based musicians over the past 2 years.
For their performance at Loop, they will present a live show in collaboration with Oriel Quartett, Tom Berkmann, Sam Vine and other special appearances.
