Digital musical instruments (DMIs) can literally take any shape, form, or size, leaving DMI designers with endless possibilities. But this ocean of opportunity can make it a challenge to know where to start.
In this workshop we’ll dive headfirst into the world of digital musical instrument design, taking advantage of the Max for Live Connection Kit. We’ll learn about some of the key design issues in the DMI field, and experiment with mapping and sensor placement. After exploring the baseline concepts surrounding new DMIs and learning how to connect basic components, you will leave equipped with the skills and tools to design and prototype your own.
No experience necessary. Please bring your laptop with Ableton 9 and Max for Live with the Connection Kit Pack installed.
Workshops are for small groups and require pre-registration. Workshops are only accessible if you have a ticket which includes access to the Workshops and Studio Sessions program – for information, check the FAQ. Registration is now open.
