Although perhaps not originally intended by their makers to be fully-fledged instruments, ever since the advent of the Akai MPC, it has been clear that practice, talent, muscle memory, and creativity can all be applied to playing to pad controllers in the same way as they are to pianos, guitars, drums, etc.
Nowadays, finger drumming is an important skill and can play a crucial role in productions where nuanced, rhythmic expression is needed. In this studio session, finger drummer extraordinaire Stro Elliot will demonstrate his workflow, techniques and creative approach. He’ll explain how he lays out sounds on the pads, how he jams out ideas and edits his sessions and more. Elliot will also share his insights on the musical skills needed to integrate finger drumming in a band context.
Studio Sessions are for small groups and require pre-registration. Sessions are only accessible if you have a ticket which includes access to the Workshops and Studio Sessions program – for information, check the FAQ. Registration is now open.
