Less is More: Make an Entire Track from a Single Sample

Samples are a key component of modern music making. But faced with a practically infinite range of source material, how do you know where to draw the line? Sometimes, less is more – and to help put this approach into practice, it’s useful to understand the potential hidden within just a single sample.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to create a whole track using just one sample as the only sound source. Together, we’ll use Sampler, Live, Push, and Max for Live to explore a range of techniques, such as turning the sample into drum elements, transforming it into a synth, and creating audio effects & atmospheric sounds.

No experience is necessary for this workshop. Push units will be provided. You'll need to bring your laptop with Live 9 and Max for Live installed to participate.

Workshops are for small groups and require pre-registration. Workshops are only accessible if you have a ticket which includes access to the Workshops and Studio Sessions program – for information, check the FAQ. Registration is now open.
