In this workshop, we'll look at some ideas for how visuals can be used as an additional instrument for immersive imagery, live cinema, VJing, and the like. Using the basic structure of an Ableton Live set, we'll explore together how you can choreograph visual elements – whether you're working solo or you're a designer or musician looking to collaborate.
Topics will include how to send relevant information from Live (MIDI, OSC, MIDI clock, Ableton Link), working with video clips, and how 3D shaders and the internal GPU can create expressive, high-performance visuals. We'll also see a setup example with software that works in free demo versions on Mac and Windows (Resolume, Isadora), which you can try. Finally, we'll see an advanced example using the Unreal Game Engine. The workshop will include ample time for Q&A and discussion.
Participants should bring a laptop with Ableton Live and any other software they may want to try.
