Performative Presentation with Caterina Barbieri

Caterina Barbieri is a composer working with modular synthesizers. Her musical work explores themes of machine intelligence and object oriented perception in sound, by conceptualizing the artistic practice as a cognitive conversation between humans and technology.

In this performative presentation, Caterina will share details about her equipment and its applications, expand on the meaning of ‘minimalism’ as a way of describing her work, and talk about what she calls a ‘subtractive’ mode of composition – drawing parallels with classical Indian music. The conversation will be followed by a live performance.
