Dustin Ragland

Dustin Ragland writes and performs music as Young Weather, and works at the intersection of music technology, education and performance.

Combining his background in ancient languages with his 12 years of experience as a touring and session drummer, Ragland has cultivated connections between hands-on music creation and textual explorations into sound and technology. He has presented sound installations and lectures at the OK Contemporary Gallery, Science Museum Oklahoma, MAINSITE Norman and the OKC Museum of Art.

Ragland has been a professor of music production at the Academy of Contemporary Music, University of Central Oklahoma, since 2010. He became an Ableton Certified Trainer in 2014, and is an active studio engineer, as well as a live and session musician. He is currently working on a Masters of Music Technology, and doing research and composition with Max/MSP to add a pitched ambient dimension to traditional acoustic percussion via real-time granular synthesis.

At Loop this year, Dustin will lead a series of workshops that cover improvisation, processing percussion through guitar pedals and the art of communication between music makers.
