Naia Izumi is a guitarist, singer and producer living in Los Angeles, California
Before winning this year's NPR Tiny Desk Contest in May 2018, Naia Izumi performed daily on the busy streets of Los Angeles, turning heads with his intricate guitar playing, messages of empowerment and stunning five-octave vocal range. Bob Boilen and the team at NPR Music recognized Naia’s voice out of 5,000 entries, and a week later, he was on tour throughout the US.
In each city, the honesty in Naia’s voice and his humility and calm demeanor instantly won over audiences. His sound quickly caught the attention of major record labels and booking agencies and he has signed with Sony Masterworks and is represented by Paradigm. Naia’s belief in the power of work and focus has enabled him to transcend life's challenges and the struggles that come with being a soft-spoken person in a sea of over-stimulation. He has performed at Paste Magazine, NPR Music, Jam in the Van, Magic Leap, Flood Magazine, AudioTree and has a string of dates with The Lone Below around the US this fall.
This year at Loop, Naia will give a rooftop performance and host a Studio Session on his guitar playing techniques and songwriting approaches.
