Music and Dance: inspiring ideas through movement

In most cultures, music and dance are inseparable. When musicians and dancers collaborate and share creative practices, it can provide endless jumping off points for musical composition.

In this workshop, composer and instrumentalist Mike Wall will demonstrate the potential of such collaboration. Through discussion, demonstration and live interplay with dancers, he’ll lead an exploration of how music supports movement, and how this movement can in turn inspire musical ideas. He’ll also show how Ableton Live can be used to create a template for improvisation, and capture ideas for further exploration.

Attendees will come away with an improved understanding of how to write music for dance or movement, as well as how to collaborate as a composer and musician across disciplines. A general understanding of music-making is required to get the most out of the session.

Workshop sessions are for those with tickets that include Workshop and Studio Session access. Groups are small, and require prior registration – ticket holders will be notified via email when sign-up opens on October 16th.
