Sound and Vision: composing for films

With Hollywood on their doorstep, many LA-based musicians work exclusively in composing for films, or score for films alongside their own artistic output.

This discussion will explore the work of two such musicians, Sofia Hultquist and Jimmy LaValle, and reveal the creative processes they undertake when composing to picture.

We’ll learn about the biggest challenges and rewards this kind of work can present, and how it relates to the music they make outside of film. In particular, they’ll discuss the collaboration that takes place between musician and director, and what makes for a successful creative partnership.
