clipping. is an experimental hip hop trio from Los Angeles, California made up of producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes, and rapper Daveed Diggs.
The trio work with themes of ego-death and imaginary worlds, creating rich characters and imagery through strictly constructed rapping and dark, dense instrumentals. The result strays from traditional beat-making practices into avant-garde, musique concrète, and odd time signatures.
Their self released 2013 Midcity mixtape attracted the attention of the Sub Pop label, who went on to release their debut album, CLPPNG in 2014. Splendor and Misery followed in 2016, and There Existed an Addiction to Blood was released in late 2019.
At Loop 2020, clipping. will host a Track Deconstruction, breaking down how they create their tracks. They will also be hosting an intimate Studio Session, where they will build a track from scratch with a small group of Loop attendees.
