Maya Shenfeld is a composer and sound artist currently based in Berlin, Germany. She creates electroacoustic compositions, sound installations and ensemble pieces, and performs as a classical, experimental and rock guitarist.
Shenfeld completed an MA in classical guitar and contemporary music from the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin. She has received numerous international awards and scholarships, including the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship and the DAAD scholarship.
An alumnus of Amplify Berlin, Maya worked as an artist in residence in Berlin under the mentorship of Caterina Barbieri. In May 2019, she produced and led a performance of Julius Eastman's Gay Guerrilla – produced in collaboration with the Schinkel Pavillon e.V. and featured as the opening performance of their Disappearing Berlin event series.
Maya’s works have been presented at Torstraßen Festival 2019 in Berlin, Centrala Art Gallery in Birmingham, UK, and North-Western University, Chicago, and many more. As a guitarist, she has performed in renowned concert halls, including the Tel-Aviv Museum of the Arts, Neuköllner Oper, and Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
Maya is coming to Loop as part of a group performing, improvised, slow and meditative music. She will also give a Workshop on slow form music improvisation to a group of Loop attendees.
