An Paenhuysen is a curator, art writer and educator based in Berlin.
An is a lecturer in art criticism and cultural theory at Node Center for Curatorial Studies in Berlin, and the coordinator of their International Curatorial Programme. She has curated exhibitions at Hamburger Bahnhof Museum of Contemporary Art and KIDNL Centre for Contemporary Art, both in Berlin. An was recently appointed Director of The House of The Deadly Doris art space, also in Berlin.
Paenhuysen studied cultural history at the University of Leuven, Belgium, where she obtained a Ph.D. on the cultural criticism of the Belgian avant-garde in the 1920s. She continued as a post-doctoral fellow, researching urban photography in 1920s Berlin at UC Berkeley, Columbia University in New York and Humboldt-University in Berlin.
