Sotomayor is the Mexican brother-sister duo of Raul and Paulina Sotomayor. The pair fuses Latin American rhythms from cumbia, afrobeat and Peruvian chicha with electronic beats.

Sotomayor’s debut LP, Salvaje was released in 2015 by Mexican label Tropic-All and UK imprint New Hispanic Music. In the same year, they performed at prestigious Mexican festival Vive Latino, while MTV Iggy ranked Salvaje as one of the top 25 albums of the year. Their tracks also trended on Spotify’s Mexico’s VIRAL 50 playlist. The Sotomayor band made its first international tour that November, traveling to the UK for performances at The British Museum for Día de Muertos and Wahaca’s Day of the Dead festival. In 2016 Salvaje won Mexico’s IMAS Award for best album.

In 2017 Sotomayor participated in Mexico’s first official Kickstarter campaign to fund the making of their second studio album. Conquistador was released later that year by Sicario Music.

Alongside touring in Latin America, the US and Europe, Sotomayer was one of the few Mexican acts invited to perform in-studio at KEXP.

2019 will see the release of Orígenes (“Origins”), their 3rd studio album, produced by multiple Grammy award-winning producer Eduardo Cabra.

Sotomayor will perform this year at Loop, showcasing their unique ability to synthesize diverse global sounds, each with their own distinct history, into something new.
