Open Music Lab (OML) is a free music school run by Give Something Back To Berlin (GSBTB)
Hosted by Open Music Lab student, Nathassia, this Music Improv Session is an opportunity to explore the relationship between music and culture, and experience the sonic realities of non-Western peoples.
Nathassia will lead the group in music-making games using samples she’s curated, and speak about the personal relevance of the sounds and textures chosen. She’ll then invite attendees to experiment and improvise with the samples in new and unique combinations.
By integrating other musicians’ samples into your own sounds, the session encourages cross-cultural collaboration and uses the shared creative practice to help spark new contexts, understandings and inspiration.
OML is an award-winning project platform and network fostering community integration, intercultural dialogue and participation among Berlin’s diverse migrant populations. It aims to empower refugees interested in music-making and bring together the city’s wider creative community in safe, accessible spaces.
