Garden of Russolo is an interactive sound sculpture made up of a series of audio manipulation boxes which record, process and playback sounds.
The sculpture pays homage to futurist painter and noise music pioneer Luigi Russolo’s Intonarumori, a group of mechanical boxes each designed to create different qualities of noise and sound through amplification cones.
Visitors are invited to talk, shout or sing into each cone to discover the distinctive and unexpected ways each box modifies and distorts their voice. Visually similar to the original Intonarumori, the Garden of Russolo simultaneously references a past musical innovator and creates moments of joy and playfulness in the present.
Please play, explore and experiment.
