Part of an old crematorium, the Ebensperger Chapel at Silent Green was originally designed for contemplation and remembrance. In this Music Improv Session, the space will be used as a sonic canvas and source of inspiration, offering participants the opportunity to think, feel and express themselves through slow, resonant sound.
Hosted by Hilary Jeffery and Maya Shenfeld, whose work focuses on site-specific performances and installations, the session will embody introspective and spiritual approaches to group improvisation by harnessing the space in which it is performed.
After sharing ideas on how to improvise slow-form music, the group will work together to decide how to structure the session. In playing together, you’ll develop a feeling for the role of music in meditation and contemplation, and the importance of music’s interaction with its physical surroundings.
