A deep focus on intonation and timbre is an essential aspect of playing drone and durational music, allowing musicians to perceive the small changes this music places at the forefront.
In this Music Improv Session, distinguished drone musician, Stephen O’Malley, shares his insight and practice through a series of ultra-minimal, durational intonation exercises in the atmospheric Ebensperger Rhomberg Chapel.
Encouraging an experiential, relational and environmental approach to musicianship, O'Malley will introduce the basics of deep listening as a musical practice and lead the group in breathing exercises before and in between collective improvisations.
No equipment is required for this session, but you may bring along an acoustic instrument or use your voice. An ensemble of instruments will be provided.
